Tex­tile Tec­ton­ics for Wood Con­struc­tion

The pro­ject „Tex­tile Ar­chi­tec­ture for Wood Con­struc­tion“ is an in­vesti­ga­tion of the de­sign, shap­ing, si­m­u­la­tion, man­u­fac­ture, and con­struc­tion of lightweight load-bear­ing struc­tu­ral com­po­nents made of wood-based cont­in­u­ous-fiber tex­tiles. This re­quires spe­cial­ized knowl­edge from vari­ous dis­ci­p­lines, which must work ex­treme­ly close­ly with one another. This in­ter­dis­ci­pli­nary syn­th­e­sis of ar­chi­tec­ture, de­sign, struc­tu­ral and me­chan­i­cal en­gi­neer­ing, ma­te­rials sci­ence, dig­i­tal si­m­u­la­tion, and robotics is ad­dress­ing the many chal­leng­ing ques­tions of de­sign, con­struc­tion, ma­te­rial prop­er­ties, and pro­duc­tion raised by the end goal. Our aim is to in­no­va­tive­ly adapt estab­lished con­cepts in wood con­struc­tion, such as pan­el­ized con­struc­tion and wood fram­ing, to tex­tile con­struc­tion. To do this, we are join­ing knowl­edge from the distin­guished tra­di­tions of the craft of weav­ing with new dig­i­tal and in­dus­trial tech­nolo­gies and man­u­fac­tur­ing pro­cess­es.
